SEO Africa Offers ACity Students Internship Opportunities

The Sponsors for Educational Opportunity Africa (SEO Africa) have offered students of Academic City College internship opportunities in revered organizations across the globe at workshop held in the college’s amphitheatre.

The internships, available annually during the spring and fall, also comes as an opportunity for students to secure employment and national service slots even before they complete school.

SEO Africa, a non-profit organization with leadership development and mentorship at heart, works at pairing students with local and international organizations to build relationships through internship programmes and in some cases, culminate into employment.

Giving the guidelines to launch themselves as the most preferred candidates for the programme, Dzidzor Ahipra, a Career Programmes Analyst at SEO Africa, took the students through a brief grooming session on cover letter writing, CV writing and interview skills. The grooming was skewed towards preparing students to fit into the class of the most preferred candidates for the SEO programme, which is open to students at all levels and nationalities.

Dzidzor advised students to be meticulous in the application process and be very honest with the information they provide. She said, “your CV should go straight to the point and be relevant to the position you are applying for. On the day of the interview, appear in your most professional and confident self, work-ready for the task.”

“To get students ready to suit into any environment they end up for an internship, we take successful applicants through soft skills grooming,” Celestine added. “If you are not willing to give back to society, this programme is not meant for you,” she emphatically stated.

Harriet Fiagbor, a level 200 Computer engineering student was very much excited at the presentation. “Honestly, I doubted there are such opportunities available for students, at no cost. I pray we get more of such presentations to open us up to what is available out there for the taking. For me, I am poised to take advantage and I look forward to landing an opportunity to intern outside the shores of Ghana,” Harriet expressed glowingly.

SEO Africa, co-founded by Kwabena Amporful and Edgar Seah was created to select, train, mentor and provide corporate access to university students with the highest potential, and in the process develop a network of future leaders across Africa.

Industrial internships forms a core element in grooming ACity students to be work-ready after school. These internships offer students the opportunity to learn and experience at first-hand the work world. The Careers Services Department facilitates the placement of students in companies during vacations to undergo internships relevant for their career development.
